Thanks for updating us.

Does icon reverted back to JB 1.01 one?

Also on tutorial: it runs via Help menu, but not from a splash screen (still wants lb4tutorial.lsn)

Yes, Carl is simply writing a new directory for the install so old versions are untouched including desktop icons. It will need deleted once the full version is issued.

Hi Carl,

Glad to see you actively trying to improve JB!

Code:
'2) Try the example programs that come with Just BASIC
'for examples of how to do lots of different things.
'Just click on the File menu and choose Open for a
'really big list of examples.

I'm sorry I can't access any samples, where are they?

The Open File menu just heads to my own JB files on my desktop.

I looked in Root \programs x86 and found new JB installation for v2.0 beta 2 but no .bas files there??

Is there a setting somewhere I should erase from JB 2.0 beta 1?

Append:

Found!

C:\Users\marka\AppData\Roaming\Just BASIC v2.0 beta 2

Good luck newbies for finding this folder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will need to experiment but if you set preferences to open last file then the link to the sample files is lost. I will see if setting preferences back to the welcome file sets the link back to the appdata folder. If you leave preferences set to open the welcome file then it keeps pointing at appdata.

We should really take the discussions to the testing and bug board. However I think Carl has the best solution to this problem of finding the users appdata directory. If you set preferences to no file Just BASIC will open pointing at appdata. If you leave it at welcome.bas it will point at appdata. If you move away from welcome .bas or select last file then the link to appdata is broken. It can be restored by setting no file in preferences and restarting.

Perhaps a "Home Directory" button on the tool bar might be simpler?

(I set preferences to go back to NO file. I usually see something at JB forum, I copy / paste and run to check out. Then to my JB folder on Desktop if I want to try mods.)

Oh yes! It does look like JB will go back to the last folder you open a file from.

As long as Welcome (or another sample from \Roaming\JB 2.0 beta 2) is in the recent list, OK! close JB after one of those were opened and you will get back to that Folder when select Open file from menu.

Also once AppData\ is typed in Windows off of
C:\users\myname\
Windows or JB will then offer prompts of next level of folders, so I guess only the secret code: "AppData\" has to be typed and the rest of the path can be rebuilt with clicks to the JB's sample folder. If you can remember Roaming, you will likely remember JB version for remainder of path.
I just don't see new users knowing all this.

I suppose if one does ALL JB development in that folder and never leaves it to "normal" desktop or documents folder, that would work.
And new users might do that.

Carl, is that your intension?

BTW Rod, your coolfractal is still cool! smiley

I do two things, first is I develop all projects in c:\basic\projectname and I have preferences set to open last file. I also have a sandbox called c:\atemp for all downloads and forum copied code. (atemp is quicker to find than temp) So my copy of Just BASIC always points to c:\basic\projectname or c:\atemp. If I need to get to the sample files I use a shortcut to the appdata folder that I previously copied and dragged and dropped to the desktop.

So now I can get to the samples by clicking on my desktop shortcut or by setting preferences to "no file".

For beginners, who know little of the Windows directory structure, or how to create desktop shortcuts, I still think a toolbar button that sets the working directory to appdata would help.

Use "Setup => External Programs" to add a short cut to the examples folder:
  • Name: Examples Folder
  • Action: explorer.exe $USERDATA

Thanks Stefan, Works great!

I plugged your two lines into my ini file and changed number from 2 to 3.

Now it shows as my first option of 3 under Run Options (I put it first).

I am happy camper cheesy

I would never change the contents of the INI file directly, since it is very easy to corrupt it.
Everything you need to change can be done through a nice GUI interface from the setup menu.

Found it, I see, OK next time. wink

Oh good got my favorite Editor Font back, and it's staying this time around. I must have known about setup menu one time some time ago.
