*Make a Rubiks Cube Program
*Has All Sides of the Cube
*Lets the user Mix the Cube and allows the user to solve it like a game
*Can be text based or graphical but when mixing on the text based, let the user know that the cube was mixed that certain way.
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
Optional: Allow the program to solve the cube by itself. *Or you can make a program that solves the cube and only that.
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''I would like to have at least three judges ' if you would like to be one of the three judges PM me.

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

I'd love to compete, but right now I am really busy with my entry in an LB contest. Sorry.

I could be a judge if you want me to, but I agree with Dioxine: I don't think this challenge will succeed... but what do I know?! wink

Maybe you could break this contest down to 2 parts. This is quite a daunting challenge. I wrote a Rubik's cube program a year or 2 ago and it took me almost 2 weeks working with folding paper into a cube to figure out how to move one array into another. In the end, I figured that all arrays moved 'as is' except for the back face which had to be reversed. Once I figured that out, the design of the program was easy.
How about redefining your challenge to first programming the Rubik Cube. Then, if you get some entries, your second challenge could be to include a Solver.
Just a thought.

This isn't meant to be an entry because (1) I made the program almost 2 years ago and (2) the program won't run in Just BASIC, but, if you have Liberty BASIC and would like an idea of how a Rubik's Cube can be done, you can find one version here

Well, the computer wouldn't really "cheat." It would just do what it's programmed to do. I suppose the programmer could cheat, but that wouldn't be much fun. Each side (or one of the 6 faces) would hold an array of 9 cubes. In the solved state, the front cube would hold

11 12 13
14 15 16
17 18 19

Twisting the cube clockwise moves the elements of the array to be

17 14 11
18 15 12
19 16 13

You also have to adjust for the connecting pieces.

I'm sure this is just one solution, but it's the one I used and it works. If you have Liberty BASIC, follow the link in an earlier reply, set the delay to 2 or 3 seconds, and see how the cube twists and turns to 'solve itself.'

.... Or, just peel of the stickers and reapply! grin

Absolutely incredi-bubble, Janet. After looking at all 2654 lines of code, I think you definitely have too much free time on your hands, but I'm glad you have enough to show us all these nifty tricks using code!

I had to download twice... the first download was apparently corrupted, I received less than 100 kb, but the second download was successful.

What a fantastic display! I think I better go back to finger painting. ROFL!
