You can create installation programmes with WinZip by making a zip file and changing the SFX options.

SetupDev - found at Softpedia.com.
This is definitely the best.

Clickteam's InstallCreator is also good. Fast and stable setups:
http://clickteam.com/English/install_creator

Inno Setup is really a great choice:
http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php

If you have the patience, this is probably one of the best and most well-known:
http://nsis.sourceforge.net

For quick and simple setups, Spoon Installer might be the one you are looking for:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/developer-sthingy-installer.htm

Two programs for creating large setups, Setup2Go and Installer2Go:
http://dev4pc.com

At least one of these should work for anyone.

I spelled one of them wrong, it's not Sthingy Installer, but Spoon Installer. Sorry.

The censor built into conforums can be very picky about some combinations of letters. I tried to spell D i c k e n s (the poet), and it came out thingykens. Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with your typing. wink

Yes, Per. It's really S p o o n Installer. I tried it and I like it, but I'll stick with SetupDev for now.

Here - I'll try saying S p o o n and D i c k e n s in a code box:

Code:
Sthingy
Richardens

Anyways, I am writing a letter to Conforums now. Here is the post: http://support.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=help3&action=display&num=1136770570
Apparently, it's on the JB censored word list. I'll just have to ask someone. Oh Welopez, Janet, or BJ!!!

We maintain the Censored Word list not Conforums.

The CW list does a string search and replace.
Occasionally, a valid word will contain a censored string and gets mangled.

It's a shame that we all have to 'pay the price' for a very small group of morons who think posting dribble is cool.
I guess it makes them feel 'grown up'.

Oh, then I understand! I tried to edit my first post a couple of times, but it always came out Sthingy. Then I thought something was wrong with the post, so I posted a new one. And that did exactly the same thing.
Thankfully it doesn't censor S-p-o-o-n or D-i-c-k-e-n-s wink

Oh, I didnt even know there was a word censor. But I am sure everyone here wouldnt use that language anyway.

But, my vote would go toward Clickteam Installer.

Yes, I know what you mean, John. In fact, I think I know the word in S-p-o-o-n that makes it a censored word. In D-i-c-k-e-n-s, too! I can't tell you here, I'll have to e-mail it to you. You can test me right, though.

I know I should not try something like this, but I too believe I know what is in S P O O N which turns it into a sensored word, and I'll check this now:

poop, poopoo, poo, poo

I am not kidding. I really check this.
No, that was not it. I can't imagine why S P O O N would be trapped, but not the subpart that I just printed as test.

LEt's keep to the topic of installers. Any other distraction should go onto a different board, like Member's Lounge.

DrOstrich,

You should simply play the install maker game of downloading different install
makers and try using each of them to make a program installer. You will learn
from this effort. Some members already gave a few good suggestions.

The simplest installer that you could make would be a self-unpacking zipped file
through a zip tool like WinZip. Next , only slightly comlex is, I believe one of the suggestions
from one of the members; I don't remember which one. Another good alternative
for this may be Levent's Setup Maker, which makes very simple installers. I'm not
sure if it is still downloadable; you'd need to try an internet search. These very simple
install makers usually require your exact set of files for your package to be contained
in one dedicated folder. The install file will put all of the files in that folder into
your installer. Not bad, but lacking in some flexibility.

Next complex is something like Install Creator (clickteam), SetUp2Go, GP Install Maker.
Others certainly exist in this range, too. Maybe even Red Shift. The other three are better
but you might still like to try Red Shift. Install Creator and Setup2Go both have a
"wizard" to help you.

The more comlex and fancy ones, I could not comment on because I couldn't deal with them.

Someone gave commentary on Tarma, but that one I couldn't deal with. Maybe you might
be comfortable with it.

Tarma is as difficult to use as Nullsoft Installation System is difficult to learn. I stick by SetupDev, but for total beginners:

http://www.reelmedia.org/pureinstall/

It works kinda like a compression program. It doesn't create ADD/REMOVE program links.
