There is a known issue with TKNs not running on Asian Windows versions.

This has already been fixed for Liberty BASIC 4.03, but Just BASIC 1.01 is based on Liberty BASIC 4.02.

To overcome this you should only need to change the regional settings for non-Unicode applications to English.
Another way is to add a separate user, which has all the regional settings set to English.

This is the reverse of how I duplicated the problem on my German Windows version.

yeah, that is it. Once I set the regional setting for non-unicode application. There is no more runtime error. However, it affects my other application. So I will rather open the program for my son when he wants to practice. Maybe I should buy the LB instead.

Thanks for all advices smiley

Hi all, I'm new to Just Basic.

I'm using Traditional Chinese version of WinXP Pro sp3, so I've the same problem as SCWONG, *.bas files run fine within JB IDE, but *.tkn don't! Apart from changing the regional settings for non-Unicode applications to English, which will affect other s/w, there is another way to overcome this problem.

Download and install MS AppLocale, use it to run JB in "polski", then *.tkn can be run correctly.

But there are two setback:
1. AppLocale itself has a bug, it may cause other s/w fail to display Asian text correctly. Someone has modified MS AppLocale to pAppLocale, a bug fixed version. If you want to use the original MS version, it is easy to correct this bug, use notepad to save an empty text file with the name and path "C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\AppLoc.tmp", must have the the 2 "s otherwise notepad will add .txt at the end of the filename, then set the attribute of this file to read only.

2. Since JB is now running in a non-Chinese enviroment, so no Chinese text can be used in button caption, static text caption...etc.

I use pAppLocale, it works fine, and I can also create and run executable program in Chinese version of Windows by the same way, use AppLocale to run the renamed jbrun101.exe in "polski".

I have tried doing this several times and I keep going back and re-reading the help file. I copied over the jbrun101.exe and renamed it anna. Then I made a .tkn file from my .bas file anna. So then I put anna.exe and anna.tkn in a folder on my desktop called anna that i could share. I click the copy of the jbrun101 named anna.exe and it says

"Cannot locate VVM31W.DLL; check PATH statement"

What am I doing wrong here? Please help me out.

You need to put the required DLLs with your .exe you will find what these are in the help file, they are in the JB folder.

I am running Just Basic on Vista. I want to convert this very small program I built into a .exe file type, but when I try to pull up the help it says Vista does not support it. Nevertheless, I cannot find detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do this...can anyone help? I have tried to make a Zip file, but seem to be failing at that too. undecided I am VERY new to this and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I think I'm starting to understand this...I put all my appropriate files in a folder on the desktop then selected them all and sent to a compressed (zipped) folder. That created a zip file inside of the folder with all the other files. When I open the zipped folder and double click the name_of_program.exe (for example) it opens up my program. But if I move the zipped folder outside of the original folder, the .exe file inside the zipped folder will not open...is this normal?
The reason I ask is because I would like to email this file to a friend and I want it to open properly because I know he doesn't have Just BASIC on his PC. So do I keep the zipped folder in the original? huh

You can not run any program directly from a ZIP archive.
The term ZIP folder is misleading, since it is actually a file and not a folder.

Explorer only extracts the selected file from the ZIP archive to a temporary location, so all the support files are missing.

Your friend will have to extract the contained files into a real folder to be able to run your application, which is the recommended way anyways.

By the way, I love this site. Very useful information. I have a pretty dumb question, but I cannot figure this out. I am taking an online class for JB and I have written the code exactly, but when I try to Run the program, I get an error messaage that says "Runtime Error: FileSystemAccessDenied (see error.log for more information)
How do I fix this? Do I need to reinstall JB? huh

Had to run as admin. Thanks. Another question if you don't mind...I have this bit of code from the class:

Instructions1$ = "Enter an answer to the following math equation: " + _
str$(FirstNo) + " + " + str$(SecondNo) + " = "

...and it does not put text on the window..do you see anything wrong with this code?

Yes but this is off topic to this thread.
Start a new thread in the Novice area and I'll be happy to lend a hand.
