xx problem creating .exe with IExpress
« Thread started on: Apr 29th, 2014, 12:18pm »

I am trying to create .exe files of my programs to have them downloadable from my website. In using IExpress to create an installation file, I am following the instructions here:

http://babek.info/libertybasicfiles/lbnews/nl134/iexpress.htm

but whenever I get to the last step, Create Package, I get an error message:

Unable to open the Report file 'C:\Program Files\Just BASIC v1.01\~unspinner.RPT'.

the name of the program is unspinner, I am using Vista.

Try to reinstall JB out of Program files, like in FAQ
Installing Just BASIC on Vista/Win7/Win8

A: Go ahead. I had my share of good then I coded it for fun, if you can make better use of it - please do.

OK, reinstalling Just Basic elsewhere helped with that problem. However, now there's a new one.

Following the same instructions, I created an installation file. The instructions kind of gloss over the end of the process, but seemed to say that the renamed exe file in the folder I created for this thing now had all of the other files compressed into it.

So I uploaded the exe file to my website with Filezilla, and when a friend downloaded it for a test and tried to open the exe file, she got this message:

Cannot locate VVM31W.DLL; check PATH statement

What is going on?

When creating an exe file of your program, you need to put the .dlls and the .slls in the same folder. Look it up in the help area of jb if you are still confused.

Yes, I am well aware of that. As I said already:

I followed the instructions in the site referenced in my first post. All of the steps. I included all the DLL files and everything else.

My question, once again, is why, when I followed the instructions provided on that site, it produced that effect, despite the fact that all of the files had been included.

I'm pretty sure instructions posted on that site worked then posted - back in 2005 on XP.

But now - like, anyone could have an idea?
If you post a link to your uploaded file someone could try it at his machine. (I could too but I'm still on XP laugh )

On your own computer, is the new .exe larger than the original.exe? The purpose of the installer is to create a stand alone .exe that will self extract. If you move the new .exe on your computer to a new location does it work?

Are you sending the correct .exe. If you were sending or running the old.exe in a new location you would get the error you speak of. If you run the old .exe in its original location it will work, so are you starting the old.exe or the new one?
