xx Idea for JustBASIC
« Thread started on: Aug 5th, 2005, 3:41pm »

Ok, I have not seen aything like this for JustBASIC. So I think that this would be cool, to be able to use the open command to alwo open child windows for a already open parent window. So like something like the to examples below code open a child window

open "Window 1" for child as #2

or

open "Window 1" for #1 as #2

or even

open "Window 1" for child(#1) as #2

something like this would be a cool editon to JustBASIC. Thanks

You can open a window, open a second window, and then set a flag so that if the first window closes, the second does, to. I use this frequently as I program quite coomplex GUI's often. (Half of the time, I design it in freeform, find I need another control, but closed freeform, so I abandon ship grin )

Liberty BASIC has the capability of making "Child winows", but I don't yet understand the meaning. Your first description is a normal practice for controlling the openness and closedness of windows in a path of windows. That descriptio n sounds very normal and proper. Your last description is a practice that needs improvement. You do not need to produce a new window in order to add a control. Instead of reopening FreeForm, go into the code of your program and put code for the control in a suitable place right in your program. Also, be aware you can SAVE a FreeForm project with an filename and reopen that in order to edit it and put in your forgotten control.

I thought he meant having a window inside another window.

No need to abandon the project, see the tutorial at http://justbasic.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=tutorial&action=display&num=1107313524

I often find I need another control, perhaps even two or three, or I want to change a listbox to a combobox, or something.

Click on the help file topic Controls, select the control you want to use, copy and paste the parameters to your program using a REM so it doesn't affect the program, then add your control to your GUI with the necessary parameters for your program and voila! Delete the REM and you're ready to go! cheesy

With a little practice, you'll do this more and more because it's so easy! smiley
