Updates of Freeform-J can be found at the Just BASIC Wiki.

Freeform-J is open source, so you are welcome to add any enhancements you see fit.

Feel free to post your customized version at the Just BASIC Wiki.

Please make sure to add your additions to the latest updated version available and not to the version shipping with JB.
This allows downloading the latest and greatest version in one file instead of having to merge them manually.

An update of the original Freeform-J v1.0 has been added to the JB files archive site.

This version adds a grid to the editor window and modifies and moves the initial position of the inspect control window, two items that I missed when I would use Freeform.

The code patch to add the grid can also be used with later versions of Freeform updated by uncleBen and others by pasting the patch into those .bas files and making a new .tkn file.

The update is: fformj260311.zip in the files archive site.

EDIT: Unzip the archive and place the .bas file in your main JB program folder, in order to access the bmps and other support files.

Please note that this version is based on the original version of Freeform-J. As such, it does not have some of the features found in the updates by uncleBen and others; nor does it have any of the bug fixes. It is presented here mainly to show a method of adding a grid to the edit window.

...

I think I need a little advice here. I just d/l'd the zip file and realized that I had not considered bmps and such.

When I was working on this program, I kept the bas file in my main JB folder so all support files were relative. I see now that for all things to work properly, a person who d/l's the program will have to do the same - save the .bas file to the main JB folder.

My question is: Is this a proper way to publish this update?

Thanks,

Jack

From my point of view I would say yes.

I have now created a page for the Freeform updates at the Just BASIC wiki.

When the files archive will get online in the future, I will remove the updates from the files archive site.

The Wiki will be the place for Freeform updates from now on.

In addition I suggest to incorporate any update into the latest update available and not into the version shipping with JB.

This forces the last update submitted in March 2011 to be applied to the last v1.0c modification.

Doing so will allow users to get the latest version with all updates by downloading the latest update, instead of having to merge the updates manually.

Is this real open source and can I make and distribute modifications I have made to this.

The header on the original from the JB install is as follows.

Code:
    'Freeform-J v1.0a for Just BASIC

    'Copyright 2004 Shoptalk Systems
    'All Rights Reserved

'This program lets you graphically lay out
'windows and their controls, and then converts
'this visual layout to Liberty BASIC source code
'that you can paste into your Liberty BASIC
    'programming session.

    'INI filename = ffjust.ini
'FREEFORM-J template save name extension = *.frj

I have some mods that i have done to make a more full blown IDE out of this thing.

Is that ok to distribute with source code and compiled?

I might like to try to latest FreeFormJ update but not sure how to install or where to unpack what. I would not want to ruin the current FreeFormJ files and folder paths.

Generally you can place the update into a folder of its own.
You will just have to change the location of the images or create a copy of the BMP folder shipping with JB.
