xx Just BASIC help not working
« Thread started on: Oct 30th, 2015, 11:55pm »

When I click on Just BASIC help (or tutorial),
I get this message:

"Error opening Help in Windows-based programs: "Feature not included" or "Help not supported" "
in a Windows Edge window.

the recommended action is
"To resolve this problem, download and install the Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) for your version of Windows."

Thing is, I'm running windows 10 and there is not a download for windows 10 in their list. I tried the one for windows 7 since that was what I upgraded to windows 10 from....but didn't work.

any ideas?

Hi Snewburn,

I know things wouldn't work correctly for me until I unpacked my JB files into the folder jb101 from root directory ie, don't use the default folder when unpacking the files. I don't think this is just a Windows 10 problem. I got this tip from Carl.

Just BASIC is not "unpacked"; but is INSTALLED. You need to install into a place where (most) files will be effective for you, so install into some place like C:\JBprogramming, or whatever folder name you want to use.

You should also want to know about CHM-format help file, found at http://justbasic.wikispaces.com/Temp_Help_for_Vista

You then need to know where you unpack this (yes, this one you do "unpack"), and need to set the path for it through Just BASIC; and you might also need to UNBLOCK the file before you can use it.

Yep, be sure you have installed Just BASIC to a folder of your own ie c\:basic Do not install it to the default directory which is c:\program files (x86) This default folder is protected by windows and you wont be able to access anything in it.

So assume you have installed Just BASIC to c:\basic Click on the links you have been given and download the .chm file. Windows will ask you if you want to save or open the file. Open it, you will be given the choice to extract it to a directory, choose the c:\basic directory and extract it there.

Now if you have used IE or Edge to download the file it will have been blocked by windows for your protection. If you open it it will start but you will see no content. So to unblock it right click on the .chm file and select properties, in the general tab click on unblock.

Now when you start it you will see the content. Expand the window frame to see all of the text.

Hello,

I am trying to reload my new hard drive with Windows 10 and the links to help files don't seem to be linking. Has something happened to wikispaces?

OK after several tries I got it. Odd the difficulty reaching it.
