« Thread started on: Feb 13th, 2012, 01:00am »

The link from a front page Official Just BASIC Newsletter opens to page with "This Account Has Been Suspended" message.
Is JB newsletters gone?
Could that account be resumed?
If not, may be someone has a backup - to made them available say on JB Wiki?

By and large most of the important code demos have been ported to the Liberty Wiki. Also a lot of the newsletter code either worked round gaps that were filled in later upgrades to Liberty or were coded for 16bit windows calls.

We have been expecting its demise for some time.

The account and contents are gone, since we didn't have full control over it.
I even can't remember who has set it up.

Nope, it was JB information, no API.
Today I've seen request about multiple timers - I remembered reading article by Welopez, I did a search and got a link to it

John has been in touch with one of the LB forum staff members.
He has to work out some personal issues and has no access to the Internet currently.

May be we can get some of the content through the way-back-machine and add it to the Wiki, if we get the permission from the initial authors.

Now, that's great.
The question is - could we count it be there forever (well, no more then any other site?) or it is still worth to take a full backup and repost it to JB wiki?
I do not think much about "violating license" stuff - here it will be kind of "rescue operation": since original site is down, isn't it straightforward to move it to another server?

I don't know, if it will be there forever, since I haven't read the TOS of the way back machine.

I wouldn't republish an article without the permission of the original author, despite of it being a rescue or not.

I haven't checked out the list of authors, so I haven't contacted anyone at all.

I looked at the TOS for your newsletter. Individual authors retain copyrights to their articles, but the "newsletter publishing team" has copyrighted the issues. I *think* this means you have the right to republish the issues, but not the individual articles. If you put aside a section of the wiki for newsletter issues and copy entire issues there, you should be okay.

The Liberty BASIC Newsletter had a TOS that specifically stated that the publishers could republish articles, which we do/have done at the LBPE.

I keep a backup of the 17 zip files. But I do not have internet access at the moment, just logged from my cell-phone.

I wouldn't consider a move to an active website from a dead one to be republishing. The URL isn't an important consideration, is it?

The URL is not a problem at all, the content is important.

A rewrite might just be a way to polish things up a bit.

The top section of the site is a listing of individual newsletters but the site holding them is not in operation; but the archive links of the same listing shown on the bottom act as workable download links to zip files for each article. The downloading apparently works. The newsletters then are still available if desiring to download them.

Does anyone happen to have the last three archived newsletters? I attempted to access them all through http://web.archive.org/web/20110202221915/http://jbasicnews.com/, but #15, #16, and #17 are no longer available.

Thanks,
Joe
