xx Software seeking functions
« Thread started on: Aug 8th, 2017, 03:48am »

Basically it is a management of lists multi parameters, of the type: Names; Ages; Weight; Sizes; Sport ... ext..ext ...
With constrained selection (and, not, or) and sorting (thank bplus).
I look for functions to add to it.
In the English version "english.bas", only the interface is in English.
The exe is in French.
Put the data to be processed in a file ".txt", and import it with: Menu: "Folders / Open"
I work on the "and+and+and" and on the "not+and "
It's here -->: http://libertybasic.fr/forum/topic-467+essai-de-table.php
Would you have some functions?

My guess here is that you are working on a custom design data base.

Just a guess!

Generally for such you need numerical analysis tools for numeric data:

basic ones like: max, min, average

statistical ones like: mean, standard deviation, regressions

display ones like: bar charts, graphs

What is needed is a function of what you intend to do.

Like for example, you are an gaming author and what to keep track of all the qualities of each character in your little play. Then, a slightly different set of tools would be needed, sort of a List Keeper application.

Ah business men and game makers, not so different when it comes to programming a reality.

Yes for the numérical part these are good ideas that I note.
What can be done as an analysis on the text?
Is there no other logical function than And; Not, Or, Not-and?
What I want to do is one thing as general and as complete as possible
Have you tested?

Have I tested? huh

For string stuff you can count words, I have heard these days English majors are very into counting words! They write papers on finding meaning in word counts (and then some stat analysis on that!). wink a Rorschach Test for college students.

Yeah counting words (or people or places or things)...

Then there is always random, like randomly selecting from lists people, places or things and building stories around crazy combinations to make a sense of them.

Ah Yes! Then there is the translation function one that translates English to French and vice versa would be a great hit! I will bet real money on that one.

The ultimate string function is an editor, with an editor one can make any paper or report or web site look great ie editors that include pictures and graphs and animation... that would be the be all, end all ultimate data baser.

Append: Oh I just thought of another string function: filters, maybe a little like translating or editing.

Counting words is good, I adopt
The logicals functions are also filters
I leave the translation to Google.
Yes, have you tested the link for my first post?
The interface of "English Vers.bas" is in English

The first thing you need to do with a database is sort it. A multi column sort is the most powerful, sport, age, venue etc.
Sometimes this is called indexing.

Once sorted then selecting records that you require eliminates others. This allows listing and summing intelligently.

So sorting on sport, age would allow you to list tennis players between 15 years and 16 years very easily because they would all be listed together.

Add in name and tennis players between 15 and 16 would be listed in alphabetical order!

Read up on database techniques and think less about BASIC.
